Spotlight Charity: Hospice Wellington
Day 3 of giving is proud to spotlight Hospice Wellington for the Charity of the Day!
Since 1980, Hospice Wellington has provided what we will call the 3 gifts of compassionate care, emotional support and practical assistance to individuals and families facing a life-threatening illness, extending through bereavement. Hospice Wellington provides a multitude of services to support those individuals of Wellington County living with a life-limiting illness and these programs extend to the families and caregivers supporting those diagnosed with a life-limiting illness. For more detail, to get involved, or for a list of items that they have on their wish list, please click here: https://www.hospicewellington.org/donate. Hospice palliative care strives to improve the quality of a patient’s last days by offering comfort and dignity while addressing all symptoms of the illness. The volunteers and staff of this organization are not only compassionate & supportive – but inspirational!
Day 3 of giving is proud to feature Candies of Merritt as the local business of the Day!
At Candies of Merritt, they practice the art of candy making. Their chocolates & candies are made from scratch, by hand. These traditional methods have been passed down and refined by generations resulting in sweets with the exceptional 3 gifts of flavour, quality, and texture. Candy making is a tradition for the Merritt family. Current owner, Bruce Merritt, is the third generation of candy makers in his family. The original Candies of Merritt was established in 1972, by Bruce’s parents, and located on Elizabeth Street. Since then, Candies of Merritt has moved to its current location at the intersection of Speedvale and Stevenson, in the Speedvale Centre. Bruce has taken over as the business owner and continues to make chocolates and candy for the local community!
Most things stay the same as the majority of their chocolates & candies stay year-round. However, candy making is all about the seasons. As candy-makers, they create different products throughout the year. When Christmas approaches, they pull candy canes, shape cut rock candy, and create Chocolate greeting cards. For Valentine’s Day, they dip hand-rolled chocolate truffles. At Easter, they mould chocolate eggs and bunnies. If you prefer the virtual trip, they also offer online shopping where you can email your orders or phone in your orders with curb side pickup, sent out by delivery service within Guelph, or shipped by Canada Post. You can visit their website to check out their products or complete offerings here: https://candiesofmerritt.com/
Or go visit them in person following social distancing at: 344 Speedvale Ave. East, Guelph
Support your local businesses, neighbours, and families as this is an investment in the health and future of our community!
