Day 7 of Giving is the 7 health benefits of having pets! With our local feature business and local charity being:
Feature Business: Dr. Abe Aho – Morriston Veterinary Clinic
Spotlight Charity: Guelph Humane Society
It has been widely publicized that pets can provide significant health benefits for us humans. I have come across at least 7 health benefits of having pets. I am sure there are probably more but the seven I came across are: (1) they help reduce stress & anxiety (2) provide affection & comfort (3) reduce blood pressure, (4) help us get outdoors and be more active, (5) they help reduce the risk of illness, (6) they help us socialize and meet new people, and (7) they apparently sniff out medical conditions – according to the movie a Dog’s Journey!
Day 7 of Giving is proud to spotlight the Guelph Humane Society for the Charity of The Day!
Founded in 1893, the Guelph Humane Society provides care and shelter for approximately 3,000 homeless, stray, injured, orphaned, abandoned and abused animals each year, throughout Guelph and Wellington County. For 125 years, the Guelph Humane Society has been dedicated to protecting and caring for the many animals with whom we share our community and our lives, and to fostering the important bonds with animals that enrich us as individuals, families and communities. The Guelph Humane Society envisions a world where all animals are treated humanely, with respect and compassion. Their mission is to advocate for all animals, and in particular those animals whose lives we can influence, through care, education, community support, protection, and leadership. Tell friends and family looking to adopt to visit their adoption page here: https://guelphhumane.ca/adopt/available-animals/ Alternatively, if you would like to learn more, volunteer, or donate to this fantastic endeavour, please click here: https://guelphhumane.ca
Day 7 of giving is proud to feature Dr. Abe Aho – Morriston Veterinary Clinic as the local business of the Day!
Dr. Abraham Aho was raised on the south shore of Lake Superior in the rural Upper Peninsula of Michigan. He grew up helping his father, who is a veterinarian, both in the clinic and on “farm calls” in the surrounding community. This early upbringing in the veterinary sciences created a pathway for Dr. Abe to receive his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 2009. Several years later he moved to Puslinch (in December 2013) where he began practicing in Campbellville. He worked with both small animals and horses and then eventually focused his time on the small animal practice. Growing up in a small town he appreciates all that Puslinch and the surrounding communities have to offer and knows the importance of giving back to the community. Where his passion for community and animals melded, he decided to fill the need for veterinary services in the Morriston and Puslinch area, and the Morriston Veterinary Clinic was created. Dr. Aho lives in Puslinch with his wife and three children, two dogs, two cats, five guinea pigs, two chickens and his special rabbit “Stella.”
Morriston Veterinary Clinic specializes in general small animal wellness prevention, and surgery, and offer a wide range of veterinary services for your pet. If you would like to learn more about them, visit their website at https://www.morristonvetclinic.com or have a social distance visit with them at their lovely new clinic located at 29 Queen Street in Morriston. New clients are always welcome!
Support your local businesses, neighbours, and families as this is an investment in the health and future of our community!
