Day 9 of Giving is proud to spotlight the Guelph Wellington Women in Crisis for the Charity of The Day!
Being a Realtor, allows me to find the perfect home for clients to not only have shelter but to feel safe. The reality for some is that their homes are not safe, they may be living with abuse or violence in their day to day lives. Guelph-Wellington Women in Crisis is a community-based organization providing services to women and their children who have experienced abuse and sexual violence. Their vision is for women and children to live free of violence. They believe that all women and children have the right to live in safety and dignity. Guelph-Wellington Women in Crisis is committed to creating environments where all women and children feel safe. They build safety through healthy practices of inclusion, respect, self-care and confidentiality. Day 9 of giving is proud to feature Reids Candy & Nut Shop as the local business of the Day!
Reids Candy & Nut Shop has a 70-year family tradition in the area. Since 1948, Reids has been a local destination and tradition for many in the Cambridge community and beyond. The Reid’s store, originally located on Main St. as a Raymond’s Nut Shop was opened in 1948. In 1960, Hugh and Isabelle Reid became the new owners on Main St. where they operated the store successfully for the next 11 years. In 1971, when the store moved to the south side of Main St., Tom and Kathy Drew-Smith purchased the business and Reids began to offer handmade chocolates and confections.
Now owned and operated by brother and sister team, Ted Drew-Smith and Carrie Peart, Reids continues to move forward with the family tradition of great customer service and quality products. In 2018, they had a large expansion from their flagship store on Ainslie Street, in downtown Cambridge to their retail outlets at 39 Elgin Street South, Cambridge and in the Old Quebec Street Shoppes at 55 Wyndham Street N. in Guelph where you can visit them safely via social distancing. And in 2019, much of the movie “The Magical Christmas Shoes” starring Damon Runyan and Erin Karpluk was filmed at Reids Chocolates in Cambridge!! And director Robin Dunne says they even changed the name of the store in the script to Reids for the movie.
