Day 11 of Giving is the “11 Pounds of Back bacon” per Bob & Doug Mckenzie’s classic Canadian version of the 12 Days of Christmas! With our local feature and local charity being:
Feature: All the front line workers
Spotlight Charity: Guelph Food Bank
This past year has been a difficult one for everyone. At local food banks across the province, food donations are down due to COVID-19 and food banks are anticipating an increase in need over the winter months. Let’s take a look at today’s spotlight charity.
Day 11 of Giving is proud to have the Guelph Food Bank as the spotlight Charity!

Families or individuals struggling financially and unable to meet their needs can have a difficult time any season in our community, but Christmas can be an especially difficult time and this is where the Guelph Food Bank steps in. The Guelph Food Bank (GFB) was established by Spiritwind Christian Centre in 1989. Their motto is “people helping people since 1989”. Guelph Food Bank clients vary in age, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds, but they have one thing in common: they are all faced with financial hardship. Due to illness, short-term crisis, job loss, adverse economic conditions, and the ever-increasing cost of living, our clients cannot afford to buy the needed groceries to adequately feed themselves and/or their families. The goal at Guelph Food Bank is not only to help meet the needs of their clients in the short term, but also to help clients become self-sufficient and gain and maintain self-worth to eventually stand on their own with little or no help. The Guelph Food Bank relies on the support of the community through food drives, on-going bin collections in stores, and direct recovery from manufacturers & distributors.
Right now, the most needed items are: Canned Meats – Tuna/Salmon/Ham/Chicken, Peanut Butter, Cheese Spread, Canned Fruit, Canned Vegetables, Stew & Soups, Meal Helper, Canned Tomatoes, Pasta Sauce, Cereal, Dry Pasta, Rice, Juices, Coffee, Tea, Adult & Children’s Toiletries, Baby Formula, Baby Foods, Girls & Boys Diapers Size 5 & 6. Special Diet Foods: Diabetic Products, Low Salt/Wheat Free Products, Boost or Ensure.

Day 11 of giving is proud to feature All the frontline workers with a special thank you for today!

Over these 12 days of giving, I have been featuring charities and local businesses to highlight their presence in the region. Today I want to ensure we say a “Thank you” to all the frontline and essential workers that have enabled our country, our economy, our cities, our households, and our health to endure this pandemic. Frontline workers are those who support us in our communities, providing services that are most needed. Today, let’s take a pause and send thanks and warm thoughts to all of you who are working through these challenging times. We are thankful for your commitment to caring for us and our community. We are thankful for your dedication and skill and know that you are making a difference for all of us. We are very lucky to have you, our everyday heroes, in our lives and in our communities. Words are not enough to thank you for your strength, courage and dedication, but know that we appreciate all you do!
Support your local businesses, neighbours, and families as this is an investment in the health and future of our community!
Today is the 11th day of giving! One of you lucky folks will win a $50 grocery gift card!! And for every 12 unique comments on the official facebook post, Guelph Food Bank will also receive a $25 donation (up to max.$200) – the more comments…the more donations so please SHARE!
